Rebuilding Together Tri-Cities

Our Story

In 1994, Christmas in April Petersburg instituted a one day neighborhood revitalization program in the Old Town Neighborhood. The pilot program, named Christmas in April Petersburg, was modeled after the national Christmas In April USA program (now Rebuilding Together). Implemented to repair the houses of the city’s low-income elderly and disabled homeowners, that year the program used volunteer labor along with donated and purchased building material to paint and repair 3 homes. There were 150 volunteers provided by corporations and community groups; the total budget was raised through corporate donations. In 2005, following the lead of our national organization, Rebuilding Together, the organization changed its name to Rebuilding Together Petersburg and operated under this name until June 2011.

Why did we change our name?

Recognizing there is much need in the Tri-Cities area, our Board of Directors voted in January 2011 to expand our service area. To more accurately reflect our new geographic area, we have changed our name to Rebuilding Together Tri-Cities. Our mission remains the same—to preserve houses and neighborhoods and assure a warm, safe, and dry home for people in need. The change to Rebuilding Together Tri-Cities is about new possibilities. Our goal is to make a sustainable impact through partnerships with and for our community. Please join us as we meet our mission by helping us rebuild the Tri-Cities together.
