Home Modifications

Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest impact. This is very true for our newly expanded “Home Mod” program. Installing a grab bar, tub seat and hand held shower could change a bathroom from a potentially dangerous place to a safer, more accessible room for an elderly individual. Lever doorknobs and toggle light switches improve life for those with limited mobility. Sturdy stair railings and ramps boost confidence, often resulting in renewed mobility. These examples of modifications are relatively easy to make and can have a significant impact on homeowner safety and comfort.

In a recent project, Patricia, the primary caregiver to two grandchildren, struggling with limited mobility, was unable to use her shower independently. She had to rely on her 10-year-old granddaughter to assist her in bathing and getting in and out of the tub. With the addition of a tub transfer bench, strategically placed grab bars and a hand held shower, she is now, for the first time in two years, completely independent in the bath. A project that required a small investment of time and money has made a huge improvement in her life.
